Macroinvertebrate species occupancy frequency distribution patterns in eutrophic lakes

چکیده
Abstract Metacommunity models describe species occupancy frequency distribution (hereinafter ‘SOFD’). Our goal is to present how the differences in eight macroinvertebrate orders dispersal ability affect SOFD patterns. A total of 293 from were observed 14 eutrophic lakes southern Finland. Species ranged 1 14. About 30% (89 out 293) found only one lake, yielding a surprisingly high number rare species. So, there few widely distributed common and numerous with restricted distribution. Combined data supported bimodal truncated pattern. Similarly, low orders, watermites mayflies, fitted However, symmetric pattern also relatively well dragonflies damselflies ability. It seems that among different may partly explain differences. Moreover, our results slightly more niche-based model rather than metapopulation dynamics littoral metacommunities. highlight important trait for conservation patchily habitat.

Effect of eutrophication on the distribution of arsenic species in eutrophic and mesotrophic lakes.
Effects of eutrophication on arsenic speciation were studied in eutrophic Lake Kiba and mesotrophic Lake Biwa, Japan. By combining hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry with ultraviolet irradiation, inorganic, methyl and ultraviolet-labile fractions of arsenic were determined. In both Lakes, inorganic species (As(V+III)) dominated over other forms of arsenic all the year round. Most...
متن کاملPhosphorus Models for Eutrophic Lakes
Abstract--A model is developed for a highly eutrophic lake (White Lake, Michigan) which incorporates both the water and sediment systems and considers two forms of phosphorus--particulate and dissolved. Dynamic interactions of phosphorus between sediments and water are quantified by taking account particulate phosphorus sinking to the sediment-water interface and diffusion of dissolved phosphor...
متن کاملSustainable Management of Eutrophic Lakes and Reservoirs
Eutrophication of lakes and reservoirs is a major water quality problem that poses significant environmental, economic and social threats around the world. Monitoring and managing lakes and reservoirs to prevent or limit eutrophication, therefore, has significant value. The literature has been reviewed to study ecological engineering and management methods that have been and can be applied to i...
متن کاملReproductive Allocation in Three Macrophyte Species from Different Lakes with Variable Eutrophic Conditions
Reproductive allocation is a key process in the plant life cycle and aquatic plants exhibit great diversity in their reproductive systems. In the present study, we conduct a field investigation of three aquatic macrophytes: Stuckenia pectinata, Myriophyllum spicatum, and Potamogeton perfoliatus. Our results showed that widespread species, including S. pectinata and M. spicatum had greater plast...
متن کاملRanked species occupancy curves reveal common patterns among diverse metacommunities
Aim Community ecologists often compare assemblages. Alternatively, one may compare species distributions among assemblages for macroecological comparisons of species niche traits and dispersal abilities, which are consistent with metacommunity theory and a regional community concept. The aim of this metaanalysis is to use regressions of ranked species occupancy curves (RSOCs) among diverse meta...
